Stockport Schools in 'KEY' Alcohol Project

Story Highlight

An innovative project to inform 12 and 13 year-olds in Stockport of alcohol misuse takes place on the Key 103 bus.

Key 103 Radio's Alcohol Media Bus visited Stockport schools this week as part of the Safer Stockport Partnership’s approach to prevent and reduce the harm that alcohol misuse can cause.

The bus, which visited Werneth School in Romiley and St James' Catholic High School in Cheadle Hulme, gave pupils the chance to research the dangers of alcohol and work as a team to script, edit and produce a podcast to be shared by Bluetooth and on the internet.

The podcasts, warning how alcohol can affect health, relationships, and job prospects, have been entered into a competition to win a day at the Key 103 studio in Manchester producing a radio show.

"Alcohol misuse is a serious issue affecting communities, families and individuals. The Safer Stockport Partnership is committed to giving young people clear and accurate information about the health and social impacts of drinking alcohol to ensure that we help them to make the right choices".

"As part of this project we have also been able to raise awareness of the MOSAIC school-based service which provides a trained worker in every Stockport secondary school for pupils to talk to if they have any concerns about alcohol or drugs. This is important for young people who may be curious about alcohol or affected by someone else’s alcohol use."
